Saint John School Youth Sports Philosophy

“Sports” refers to all forms of health-enhancing physical activity that aim to express or improve physical fitness and mental well-being through organized or casual play. A mountain of evidence now documents the physical, mental, social, emotional, cognitive, and academic benefits that flow to young people whose bodies are in motion.

Saint John School is happy to provide youth sports programs for our youngest Heralds in grades K-6. Some of these programs are provided by the school and include flag football and intramural basketball. Other youth sports programs use the name, image, and likeness of Saint John School but are not sanctioned by us. These programs, which currently include football, cheerleading, wrestling, basketball, and baseball, are organized and coordinated by the Director of Youth Sports, who works closely with dedicated and passionate parent volunteers to provide athletic opportunities for K-6 Saint John students.

The philosophy of Saint John School Youth Sports is that all students should have equal and equitable access to any sport they wish to play, allowing student-athletes to learn about themselves, others, and life. This helps us better achieve our mission of educating the whole person by developing scholarship, deepening faith, and inspiring leadership in the Catholic tradition, in this case through physical activity that promotes teamwork, self-discipline, sportsmanship, and sacrifice.
